A police officer's been hurt after being dragged down the road by a quad bike in Wickford.

They were attending reports of vehicles being driver in an anti-social manner on Saturday evening (17 January) around 6.30pm on the High Street.

Witnesses say bikes were seen doing wheelies, riding on pavements and causing cars to brake suddenly.

A drone was used to track the suspect quad bikes and one vehicle believed to be involved was seized at Cranfield Park Road.

Basildon District Commander, Chief Insp Paul Hogben, who was also out patrolling in Wickford over the weekend, said:

"We are aware that the quad bikes have been causing a nuisance in Wickford and we are determined to stop them.

"One of my officers bravely tried to do this on Saturday evening and ended up being dragged along the pavement. It is only good fortune that they were not seriously injured.

"Those responsible for this anti-social behaviour are reckless – they are putting pedestrians and other motorists at risk and it shows a complete lack of regard for the safety of others.

"Our investigations into the anti-social riding and the assault of our officer continue. We will continue seeking to root out those responsible and where we find their bikes, those bike will be coming with us."
