Police in Chelmsford arrest driver after tire-less wheel heard "grinding" on the road
The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving
A driver in Chelmsford has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, after police officers found their vehicle without a tire on its wheel.
The force said that they "didn’t think this was the sort of thing we needed to remind people not to do", yet they have issued a reminder following the incident at the weekend.
Roads policing officers were patrolling near Generals Lane roundabout in the Essex city, when they heard a "loud, metal grinding noise." They discovered it to be a car with no tyre.
The vehicle was stopped in Beaulieu Parkway and found to have been driven for some time in this state.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. They were also issued a notice which stops the car being used on the road until the dangerous defect is repaired.
Chief Inspector Sam Girdlestone said: “I know the vast majority of drivers in Essex would never, ever drive a vehicle in this condition on the road – but we do still see this sort of behaviour.
“It is extraordinarily dangerous, puts lives at risk, and we won’t tolerate it."
