Investigators have confirmed that a 21-year-old woman involved in a collision resulting in the deaths of two siblings in Pitsea will face no charges in relation to causing death by dangerous driving.

Roman, 16, and Darcie Casselden, nine, died following a crash involving the e-scooter they were riding and a car on Ashlyns in Pitsea on 1st February last year.

Detective Sergeant Sam Nason of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said his team has conducted a thorough investigation into the tragedy.

“My thoughts, and those of my team, are with Roman and Darcie’s friends and family," Nason said.

“Since their death a year ago we have carried out a thorough and extensive investigation to establish the circumstances which led up to the collision.

“The conclusion of our investigation is that a woman arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving will face no further action.

“We have been in regular contact with Roman and Darcie’s family and specialist officers have been supporting them.”

Although the driver will not face charges for the fatal collision, police confirmed a separate investigation is ongoing. Deimante Ziobryte, 21, of Benfleet, has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of the crash and is scheduled to appear in court in March.
