Essex Police have issued a reminder about vehicle safety and the dangers of overloaded vehicles after stopping a car that was heavily laden while leaving a car boot sale.

The vehicle's comical yet unsafe load was not secure, and caught the eyes of officers when it was spotted travelling.

The load highlighted a serious road safety issue, and police warn that putting excessive weight onto your car can significantly affect how it handles, brakes and responds to any emergencies.

The load, which featured a large pink unicorn, was just one of the worries for the driver of the vehicle, as the MOT was expired for several months.

Additionally, the headlight was held in place by tape, the front bumper was secured by a bungee cord, the front number plate was missing, only one brake light was working, and the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Police say that whilst it may be tempting to fit everything back in one trip, safety should always come first.
