A man in his 30s has died following a collision on the A414 near Bobbingworth on Monday evening.

The crash, which involved a motorbike and a van, occurred at around 6.38pm on 12th January. Emergency services attended but the motorbike rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

It has been reported that the motorbike had been pursued by an Essex Police vehicle shortly before the collision. Officers began the pursuit after the vehicle failed to stop on Ongar High Street.

The van driver was arrested in connection with the crash and has since been released under investigation.

Following the incident, mandatory referral processes ensure that the case has been passed to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The watchdog has confirmed it will conduct an independent investigation.

The IOPC regularly handles cases under these circumstances where police involvement is a factor.

Further details on the investigation are expected to emerge as enquiries continue.
