Man charged following reports of a girl assaulted in Basildon

A man has been charged with five offences following a police response to a report of a serious sexual offence in Basildon.

Essex Police were called shortly after 6pm on Thursday 30 April to Ashlyns following a report that a teenage girl had been grabbed, taken to a secluded area and assaulted.

As a result of ongoing enquiries, a man was arrested on Sunday 3 May.

Charges have since been secured against Mohammed Younas, 31, of Bearstead Drive, Pitsea.

Younas, who is a British-born national, has been charged with kidnap/false imprisonment, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, and possessing criminal property.

Younas appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 5 May and was remanded in custody to appear before Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday 2 June 2026.
