A 35 year old man from Leigh has been sentenced to over 13 years in prison after assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on 5th February, when Kieran Mansfield followed the girl from a play area and attacked her in an alleyway on Woodleigh Avenue.

Detective chief inspector Greg Wood described Mansfield's actions as 'cold, calculated and predatory'.

Mansfield admitted charges including kidnapping and assault with intent to commit a sexual offence.

He will serve two-thirds of his sentence behind bars, followed by a four-year extended licence period.

A future hearing will decide the terms of an additional sexual harm prevention order.
