Castle Point Borough Council has issued an update into the situation at Canvey Lake, as they say the fish in the lake will now be removed ahead of planned dredging works.

Fish will be captured by specialist contractors and then rehomed in a "suitable environment."

The fish will be captured using a technique known as electrofishing, allowing them to be gently netted and transferred to holding tanks or keep nets for recovery.

The councils says the method is "widely used" and is designed to minimise stress and protect fish welfare.

The update was issued on their website, where further progress will be shared.

The council says it recognises that residents care deeply about the condition of the lake and that concerns have been raised.
