Three men have been jailed for a combined total of more than 15 years following a knife attack in Colchester that left two victims with serious injuries.

Brothers Regan and Tyler Humphreys, along with Kye Perkins, carried out the unprovoked assault on Howe Close, Colchester, in July 2025. They chased and stabbed two men before fleeing the scene in vehicles.

Emergency services were called at around 7.10pm, and police quickly launched a coordinated response to locate the offenders.

CCTV footage identified the suspects and their vehicles, while specially trained firearms officers and a dog unit tracked one of the cars, a silver Seat Leon, to St Johns Road, Colchester.

The vehicle dangerously evaded officers at high speeds, reaching 70–80mph in residential areas, driving on the wrong side of the road, and narrowly avoiding collisions, before crashing into a brick wall and continuing onto a field.

Perkins and Tyler Humphreys tried to escape on foot but were detained by the dog unit and firearms officers. Regan Humphreys was later arrested after police located a second vehicle during a house search in Colchester.

All three admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife. Perkins also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Appearing at Ipswich Crown Court on 27th January 2026, the men received the following sentences:

Regan Humphreys, 21, from Shoeburyness, was deemed a dangerous offender and handed an extended sentence of seven years and six months. This includes four years and six months in prison and an extended licence period of three years.

Tyler Humphreys, 23, from Colchester, also faced drug-dealing and weapons charges, including being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, and possession of a prohibited weapon (a baton). He received a total of six years and six months behind bars.

Kye Perkins, 19, with no fixed address, was sentenced to four years and one month in prison.

Detective Constable Patrick Flude, who led the investigation, described the attack as "an incredibly serious incident involving the use of knives, with no identified motive."

He added, “Incidents of this nature are mercifully rare in Essex, but we are never complacent. The community can take reassurance from the swift response and the intensive investigation that left the offenders with no choice but to admit what they did.

“Their lengthy prison sentences will protect the public. We continue to work hard to take weapons out of the hands of criminals and ensure a robust, rapid response to incidents of this nature.”

As part of efforts to tackle knife crime, Essex Police works with education, health, and justice partners within the Violence and Vulnerability Unit. These efforts are showing results, with knife-enabled crime in Colchester reducing by 6% over the last year.
