Colchester City Council is appealing for information

Colchester City Council is appealing for information after a large industrial container was found abandoned in a lay-by off the London-bound A12, just past Junction 27.

The container, which appears to be full and extremely heavy, is believed to have been unlawfully dumped. Officers will place an abandoned vehicle notice on the container tomorrow morning, with removal planned if no owner comes forward.

Removing items of this size comes at significant cost to the council and, ultimately, to residents. Incidents like this place additional pressure on public resources that could otherwise be used for essential local services.

Can you help?

The council is asking anyone who may have seen how the container came to be at this location to get in touch. This includes drivers who may have dashcam footage from the area in recent days.

Even limited information could assist in identifying those responsible.

Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods & Leisure, Cllr Martin Goss, aid: “This appears to be a deliberate act of illegal dumping involving a large, heavy container. The cost of safely removing and disposing of it will be considerable and that cost ultimately falls to local taxpayers. We are determined to identify those responsible and would urge anyone who may have seen something, however minor it may seem, to come forward. Even a small detail could prove crucial to our enquiries.”
