This month, members and leaders of Clacton's Volunteer Police Cadets are taking on an endurance challenge to raise money for the RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch.

The group has set an ambitious target of 10 million steps, which is roughly equivalent to 4,500 miles.

The challenge will be aiming to raise their goal of £999.

Throughout the 31 days in October, the group will need to reach a combined total of 145 miles every single day, with each participant clocking in over 8 miles every day.

The money raised will be used by the RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch to provide food, shelter and essential veterinary care for rescued local animals.

David Dhaine, Staff Leader at Clacton Volunteer Police Cadets, said:

"Our cadets are always keen to make a positive impact in the local community, and when we heard about the fantastic work being done by the local RSPCA branch, we knew we wanted to get involved. Walking 10 million steps in a single month is going to test everyone's stamina but knowing that every step helps local animals will keep us marching forward."

Derrick Yapp, Income Generation Manager at RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch, added:

"We are overwhelmingly grateful to David and all the brilliant cadets at Clacton VPC for taking on such a huge challenge for us. As an independent local charity, we rely entirely on the generosity and initiative of our local community. A distance of 4,500 miles is no small feat, and we’ll be cheering them on every step of the way."

The RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch funds animal care from the Suffolk border down to Brentwood and Billericay. They also run two veterinary clinics in Chelmsford and Colchester.
