Cast lead revealed for Trainspotting: The Musical as tickets go on sale
The show is set for its world premiere this summer
Trainspotting: The Musical, based on the hugely popular 1996 film of the same name, is set to get its world premiere later this year. With the tickets going on sale on Tuesday 24th March, the cast lead has now also been announced.
It's been a massive 30 years since film-goers filled the box office, to see Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd and Robert Carlyle, star in the Danny Boyle film. Now, it will be given a new life as Trainspotting: The Musical, with the world premiere coming to the West End in London this July.
Who is starring in Trainspotting: The Musical?
So far, just one cast member has been announced. Robbie Scott will be making his West End debut, as Renton (played by Ewan McGregor in the film). Robbie is a 26-year-old Scottish actor.
What has Irvine Welsh said about the musical?
Irvine Welsh, the author of the original book the film was based on, has also been involved with the musical. Working with Stephen McGuinness, the pair have created music and lyrics for the new production.
Speaking about the musical he said: "This musical has a bigger, loudly beating human heart than either the book or the film. The various stage adaptations of Trainspotting have become acclaimed and moving theatrical experiences and the soundtrack to the movie is obviously iconic.
"So it made sense to put the music and words together to create an explosive, provocative and entertaining show. People need to think about the world we're living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also really need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off - it's what being human is all about - and they'll be well served with this too."
Where is the musical?
The musical will be at Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.
What dates?
It starts on Wednesday 15th July with performances Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, and matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm.
What is the running time?
The musical lasts two hours, including a 20 minute interval.
