He's part of one of the biggest boybands in the world in the form of One Direction, and has a very successful solo career, but it appears Louis Tomlinson's career could have taken a very different showbiz turn if it wasn't for The X Factor!

Before applying for talent show in 2010 and being put into 1D alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne, Louis was actually a keen actor, landing a handful of small roles in some huge TV shows.

Now, as BBC school drama Waterloo Road celebrates its 20th anniversary, bosses have unearthed an old clip of Louis appearing as an extra on the show.

The clip, which has been posted on social media, shows a young Louis with a concerned look on his face as main characters Janeece Bryant (Chelsee Healey) and Donte Charles (Adam Thomas) get into an argument in the school's playground.

Putting the clip in slow-mo for a better glimpse at Louis, the post reads: 'Can you spot One Direction's Louis Tomlinson in Waterloo Road'.

After seeing the post, fans of the 'Lemonade' singer were quick to comment, with many shocked and unaware at his former career path.

One wrote: 'Omfg, no way?!?!', with another adding: 'Always know where I can find Louis 😍in this episode ❤️❤️'. A third wrote: 'OMG Love this for him'. (sic)

What episode is he in?

Although he's only in shot for four seconds, you can see Louis' cameo on episode two of series one, which first aired way back in 2006.

Is he in any other shows?

As a child, Louis did appear in a number of shows as an extra, including Kay Mellor's Fat Friends and drama film If I Had You.

Of course, Louis auditioned for The X Factor as a solo artist in 2010, going on to be put into a band alongside four other boys. After One Direction were formed, the band captivated audiences and won the hearts of millions of fans across the world, going on to finish in fourth place on series seven.

After releasing five studio albums and touring the world with One Direction, Louis kicked off his solo career in 2016, dropping his debut solo track 'Just Hold On'.

In January this year, Louis released his third solo album title 'How Did I Get Here?', featuring tracks like 'Lemonade', 'On Fire', and 'Sunflowers'.

Louis is also heading out on tour later this month, before arriving in the UK for dates in April and May.
