Jesy Nelson has paid a touching tribute to her baby girls, Ocean and Story, who turned one today (15th May 2026). The singer has been in the public eye raising awareness of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a condition that both of her twins are affected by, and shared a video with a touching caption with her fans.

Writing alongside a video that showed clips from throughout the past year, as well as some baby scans, Jesy told her fans: 'I cannot believe it has been a whole year since having my beautiful baby girls. They have been through so much. There will never be enough words to describe just how incredible they actually are.

'My tiny little super humans. The strongest, most resilient little fighters I’ve ever known. You inspire me and every single person that ever meets you both . One whole year old today what a mile stone to reach . I read this poem a little while ago by Emily Perl Kingsley “welcome to Holland” and I think this sums up their journey so beautifully. Happy Birthday my Ocean and Story you are my whole heart and soul I love you more than you will ever know 🤍🤍

Back in January 2026, Jesy revealed her twins had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a rare genetic condition that can cause muscle weakness, saying they "will probably never walk".

Since revealing their diagnosis, the former Little Mix singer has been campaigning for a test for SMA to be included with the heel prick test given to newborns, which would enable early detection, and therefore treatment.

The singer joined former Health Secretary Wes Streeting on This Morning (back in January 2026), where he was brought to tears when they discussed her campaign to have all newborn babies screened for SMA.

A couple of months ago, NHS Scotland added SMA to their newborn screening programme in an evaluative and research capacity. Although NHS England and NHS Northern Ireland do not currently offer the test, Jesy revealed on 2nd April that NHS England will now begin tests from October 2026.
