Families of young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND), aged 13 and abive, are invited to a Preparing for Adulthood event.

The event will provide families with information and advice about the care, support, education and training opportunities available to them as young people transition into adulthood.

Taking place on Wednesday 4 February at the Mercure Hotel, Willerby, between 1pm and 6.30pm, services, providers and teams across children and adult specialist services will highlight what is available to families.

The event is free, but families are asked to register here

Professionals who work with young people with SEND are also invited to find out more about how young people can be supported.

Cabinet member for children, young people and families, Councillor Victoria Aitken, said: “This is the second Preparing for Adulthood event in the East Riding. The feedback from our first event last year was so positive; we heard just how helpful the event was for families. It provides a chance to talk to a range of professionals about education, training and employment, health, independent living, and local community networks.

"We want families to know we are here to support them, as their children grow into adults and the changes this brings for families.”

Cabinet member for adults, health and care, Councillor Jonathan Owen, said: "Children and adult services are working together to bring the best outcomes for our young people. This event is a great opportunity to find out about the range of support and advice services available to help young people, and their families."

The event is funded by the Department for Education.
