Scunthorpe shop fined £21k for selling illegal goods

A Scunthorpe man has been fined and ordered to carry out unpaid work after selling illegal items in his shop.

The shop, Latif and Brother Bargains on Scunthorpe High Street, sold illegal vapes and counterfeit homeware items.

Officers visited the shop multiple times, giving warnings to the owner, 23-year-old Sabore Alkozei, of Detuyll Street, Scunthorpe.

Despite these warnings, illegal items continued to be sold, even to minors.

Trading Standards officers managed to seize £50,000-worth of illegal vapes and counterfeit homewares.

His company, Alkozei Bargains Ltd, has been fined £15,000, plus £6,433.80 in costs.

Alkozei must complete 150 hours of unpaid work, and has been made the subject of a 12-month community service order.
