Police are questioning a 31 year old man in connection with an assault in Scunthorpe.

A 43 year old man was taken to hospital last night with a serious head injury after an incident on Frodingham Road.

Humberside Police say he is currently receiving treatment for injuries thought to be 'potentially life-threatening'.

Emergency services were called at around 10.40pm to reports that a man had been assaulted.

A 31-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. He was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Detective Inspector Scott Miller said: ā€œI understand that an incident like this is likely to cause concern amongst the community, but I would like to reassure people that we do believe this to be an isolated incident between people known to each other.

ā€œThose within the area can expect to see an increased number of officers and I would ask anyone with concerns to please come speak to them.

ā€œI would urge anyone who has information, or has CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with our enquiries to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 568 of 23 May.ā€
