Police have launched an investigation following the death of a six-year-old boy in Scunthorpe on Monday morning (10 November).

Emergency services were called to a property on Searby Road at around 9am, after paramedics reported that a child was suffering a medical episode.

Despite the efforts of medical teams, the boy was taken to hospital and sadly died a short time later.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Robinson, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A scene guard remains in place"

He said: “An investigation has been launched whilst we carry out lines of enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A 38-year-old woman remains in police custody at this time after being arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. A 17-year-old girl was also arrested and has since been released on conditional bail whilst enquiries continue.

"A scene guard remains in place as our investigation continues and to allow officers to carry out their enquiries.”

Officers remain at the property while forensic examinations and door-to-door enquiries take place.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist their investigation to come forward.
