Plans for a new housing development in Market Weighton have been submitted to East Riding Council. The homes would be built on a piece of land South of Beverley Road, in the East of the town.

The application seeks permission for 55 homes to be built on the site. Access to the development would come from a proposed road off Beverley Road.

The 2.1 hectare piece of land is allocated for housing in the council’s Local Plan, according to submitted plans.

The homes would be built with a large open space area towards the centre of the plot. This area, which includes a children’s play area, would be “overlooked on all four sides for maximum supervision,” according to submitted planning documents.

Another green space is proposed along the site’s Northern boundary. Plans state this would “provide a visually appealing entrance to the site” from the main road.

The proposed 55 homes include a range of various house types, with the plots also varying in size.

The number of proposed bedrooms in each house is as follows:

  • One-bed – 2 houses
  • Two-bed – 34 houses
  • Three-bed – 10 houses
  • Four-bed – 9 houses

The site borders an existing housing development to the West, with several other developments also nearby. Plans say that the proposed homes would visually align with the area and would integrate “effortlessly with the existing houses in terms of built form and physical presence.”
