Plans for East Riding solar panels submitted to council
The council has received an application from Newlay Asphalt (East) Ltd for a site at Catfoss Industrial Estate
Plans for nearly 600 solar panels have been submitted to East Riding Council. The application would see the panels being installed near Brandesburton.
The council has received an application from Newlay Asphalt (East) Ltd for a site at Catfoss Industrial Estate. The company produces asphalt, a concrete material used to surface roads.
Documents that have been submitted to the council explain: “Newlay Asphalt (East) Ltd is an independent asphalt supplier and subsidiary of the wider Newlay Asphalt group, which has operated from Dewsbury in West Yorkshire since 2014. The Brandesburton facility represents an £8 million investment and is the most technically advanced asphalt plant in Yorkshire. The plant was officially opened in April 2025, with production commencing on April 7, 2025.
Plans say the proposals would help in “directly reducing the facility’s reliance on grid-supplied power and delivering significant carbon savings in support of the national net zero agenda.” It is expected the panels would lead to “meaningful annual carbon savings.”
The proposed 588 solar panels would have a capacity of just over 400kW. Plans say the panels form “part of Newlay Asphalt’s wider sustainability programme for the Brandesburton facility.”
It is said the existing site and landscaping will “absorb the proposed development without adverse landscape or visual impacts.” As a result, plans argue “no significant adverse landscape or visual impact is anticipated,” from the development.
Plans explain that there are no residential properties close to the site that could be affected by noise or glare. However, it is later stated that the operation of the site will be “passive and silent.”
