A large fire has destroyed the roof of a home in Eppleworth overnight.

Firefighters were called just 1am this morning to a house off Westfield Road, where they found smoke and flames coming from the building.

At it's peak over 10 resources and over 40 firefighters were on the scene.

Humberside Fire & Rescue Service managed to bring the fire under control, but the roof collapsed while they were tackling the blaze.

Crews are still at the scene to make sure the fire does not restart.

A fire service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 00:45 this morning (10 February) to a property fire off Westfield Road in Eppleworth. We initially sent four fire engines and our Aerial Ladder Platform.

On arrival, firefighters were met with a well‑established fire, with smoke and flames visible from outside the property. Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control. However, the roof was already unstable and collapsed during firefighting operations.

In total, eight fire engines, one Aerial Ladder Platform, our drone and two specialist vehicles attended, with 41 firefighters and officers involved.

Our crews remain on scene to ensure any hidden hotspots are fully extinguished and to monitor the incident to prevent any potential reignition."
