Plans for up to 3,500 homes in Grimsby have received over 1,600 comments, marking significant public interest in the proposal.

The Grimsby West planning application, submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council, proposes the construction of three distinct neighbourhoods, a link road between the A46 and A1136, a country park, and educational facilities.

Grimsby West LLP, a joint venture between Harworth Group and local developer M F Strawson Ltd, is driving the project, slated to unfold over 26 years.

With the land already allocated for housing in the council’s Local Plan, the developers expect the plan to support nearly 450 jobs during construction and add 172 full-time equivalent jobs once completed.

A campaign group opposing the development has formed, urging residents to voice their opinions.

By 19th February, over 1,600 comments had been submitted, highlighting concerns about traffic, wildlife impact, protection of the River Freshney’s chalk stream status, and flood risks.

"I don’t want to live in a over busy village, people buy houses in Laceby village for a nice quiet village life," said a resident from Laceby.

Another objector from Guangzhou, China, described the chalk stream as “an asset of international significance. It must be protected.”

Harworth Group and M F Strawson Ltd described the project as an “exciting development,” affirming their commitment through extensive planning and consultation efforts according to their statement.
