As concerns are raised about a knife crime campaigner working across Northern Lincolnshire says schools need more support from police to get across the very real dangers of knives

It's as a survey of teachers in England shows there's been a big rise in the number of knives in classrooms.

Other research shows only 15 percent of teachers said they had been given training on how to deal with students taking weapons into classrooms.

Christina Gabbitas partnered with Humberside Police in 2020 to educate school children.

Having that relationships with the schools - with the teachers - can really help

We've spoken to her about the issue.

She told us: "The police need to be present."

"There needs to be enough money put in place so that this can happen."

"I know that all police forces would want it - I've been out with different police forces."

"Having that relationships with the schools - with the teachers - can really help."

"They can help with the intervention - the education with that."

Everybody needs to work together to make this happen

"They have a really hard job - they need to be helped so they're told how to tackle this - what can be done."

"I think that comes from having that contact with neighbourhood policing teams and the schools liaison teams with the police - they're paramount."

"One of the calls I had was that I'd helped to change some of the children's mind sets."

"That's what we need to do - we need that early intervention - education."

"It needs maybe an national initiative - national strategy putting forward."

"Right - this is what teachers need to know - these are the contacts with the policing teams."

"Everybody needs to work together to make this happen - to get this education available."
