North East Lincolnshire opens first DWP Youth Hub in Yorkshire and Humber
New support for 18 to 25-year-olds in careers, training, and wellbeing
Young people in North East Lincolnshire will soon benefit from enhanced support with careers, training, and wellbeing through the launch of the first Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Youth Hub in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Hosted at the Careers Café in Freshney Place, the Youth Hub is designed to provide personalised assistance to those aged 18 to 25 receiving benefits and supported by Grimsby Jobcentre Plus.
The initiative is part of a nationwide effort, with 180 Youth Hubs set to open across England, aiming to ensure young people can access support close to home through public transport.
The Youth Hub will consolidate local services in one location, addressing key areas that young people consider crucial, such as skills, careers and training, wellbeing, money management, and housing.
North East Lincolnshire Council’s Adult Careers Service will complement this by offering careers information, advice, and guidance to help young people explore opportunities and make informed decisions about their future paths.
Interested individuals should contact their Work Coach at Grimsby Jobcentre for more details on accessing the hub.
The Careers Café, a collaboration between TARGET NEL CIC and North East Lincolnshire Council’s Adult Careers Team, will facilitate the Youth Hub's services.
Since its opening in October 2025, the Careers Café has supported over 1,300 people with CV creation, job applications, training opportunities, and computer usage.
North East Lincolnshire Council’s Wendy Trask emphasised the importance of confidence, support, and opportunities in young people's pathways to employment and praised the hub's potential impact.
Councillor Samuel Grice expressed enthusiasm for this significant investment in young people, highlighting its role in aiding their access to learning, earning, and succeeding.
The Youth Hub will officially launch on 1st July, followed by a 'National Employability Week' event at the Careers Café
