Visitors cautioned about branch drop risk at Normanby Hall Country Park
Safety advice issued due to recent hot weather
Following a period of prolonged high temperatures, Normanby Hall Country Park has issued a safety warning concerning Sudden Branch Drop (SBD).
The recent hot weather has led to incidents of trees shedding branches unexpectedly within the park.
Sudden Branch Drop is a phenomenon that can occur during or after extended periods of dry and hot conditions, resulting in large tree limbs falling without prior signs of weakness.
This can happen even to trees that appear healthy.
To ensure visitor safety, the park advises staying alert when walking beneath mature trees, and to avoid sitting, picnicking, or parking directly under large branches when possible.
Visitors are also encouraged to follow temporary safety signage, barriers, or staff guidance in affected areas.
Normanby Hall Country Park’s Parks and Gardens Team is conducting regular inspections and monitoring trees throughout the park.
However, due to the unpredictable nature of this branch failure, all visitors are asked to remain vigilant and take extra care during this period of hot weather.
