A new online course aimed at helping parents in East Riding of Yorkshire understand their children in a rapidly changing world has now launched.

The course is part of the Togetherness programme, which has already supported over 1,200 families with free online learning resources developed by NHS experts.

These resources have addressed various stages in a child's development, offering guidance from early parenthood to dealing with teenage behaviour, and aim to boost parents' confidence.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, highlighted the significance of the new course, which explores modern issues such as smartphones, social media, AI, gender identity, climate change, and global uncertainty.

Aitken said: “Togetherness free online courses make it easy for families to access advice and support about parenting – which can be challenging for all families from time to time.

Families have responded positively to the programme, citing benefits in understanding their child's behaviour and emotional responses.

One parent shared, "This has helped me to think why my child is behaving this way and try to read their emotions by their behaviour."

Resources are available for 11 to 18 years old to aid in understanding changes in brain and emotions.

Additionally, programmes for adults focus on understanding relationships and trauma.

Families in East Riding can access these free resources anytime, with translation available in over 30 languages.
