New online course in East Yorkshire aims to spot early signs of cancer
Cancer Champions course encourages conversations and symptom awareness
An online training course named Cancer Champions has been launched by the Cancer Alliance in East Yorkshire.
The initiative aims to encourage individuals to replace doomscrolling with valuable life-saving skills.
The course teaches participants how to identify early signs of cancer, initiate conversations about symptoms, and comprehend the importance of screening.
Sharon Hornsby, a participant of the course, shared her experience and urged others to pay attention to their health.
She said, “I had two deep CT tumours that I would never have found. It had gone into my lymph nodes at this point as well. So I had them removed and some lymphs removed as well. Then I had to have chemo and radiotherapy, but I would never have felt those lumps because I was only 48 as well so I wasn't eligible for screening.
"You're not eligible till you're 50. So that would've been another year and a half on top. So I think my message is it's not all about symptoms, it's just know your body as well.”
The course is free and offers vital knowledge that could potentially save lives.
