Parents and carers in Hull and East Riding have now learned whether their children will attend their preferred primary schools this September.

According to East Riding Council, 95% of applicants have secured their first-choice school, while 99% received a place at one of their top three choices.

Out of the 2,855 applications submitted for primary and infant school places, 2,713 were awarded their first choice.

For the 35 children whose preferences could not be met, 31 have been allocated places at their catchment schools, with the remaining four assigned to the nearest schools with available space.

Cllr Victoria Aitken, East Riding's cabinet member for children, families, and education, expressed satisfaction with the high success rate, stating that families will receive an email confirming their child's school place by 4pm on Thursday, 16th April.

Hull City Council reported that 94.57% of children received offers for their preferred schools, while 98.24% were allocated places at one of their preferred three.

Pauline Turner, the Director of Children’s Services at Hull City Council said: “It’s great to see so many of our city’s pupils will be able to start school at their primary of preference, and that nearly all our children are being offered a place at one of their preferences.

"It’s an important and exciting time for children and families across Hull.

“Any parent who did not get their first preference of school will receive a letter in the next couple of days which will include the appeal paperwork and guidance.”

Parents who did not secure their first choice can expect letters soon with appeal paperwork and guidance.
