A man has been sentenced to a minimum of 24 years in prison following a vicious stabbing attack in Grimsby that left another man gravely injured.

Callum Strachan, a 23-year-old from Barnsley, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm, possession of a bladed item in public, and possession of an offensive weapon after an incident which took place in June 2024.

The violent assault occurred near Heneage Road, Grimsby, when Strachan and an unidentified accomplice wielding a knife chased the victim to an alleyway on Sixhills Street.

Strachan then attacked the victim with a baseball bat before taking the knife to stab him multiple times, resulting in serious injuries including a punctured lung.

The victim, who had never met Strachan in person, was hospitalised for a week.

Investigation and Trial

Police launched an investigation following the attack, with Strachan being detained three days later.

He initially offered no comments during interviews and was bailed pending further inquiries.

An account from the victim revealed the quarrel with Strachan stemmed from tensions involving an ex-partner.

Footage showed the victim at a nearby takeaway before the attack, with subsequent video capturing him fleeing from Strachan and another suspect.

The investigation also revealed Strachan was involved in another fatal stabbing in South Yorkshire under similar circumstances.

Sentencing

Strachan faced trial for both incidents in July 2025, which was adjourned to 2nd February 2026.

He was found guilty on all charges, including murder, in the South Yorkshire stabbing case.

Strachan received an automatic life sentence for murder, with a minimum term of 24 years in prison.

Police Constable Dan Greaves spoke about the impact of the crime: “This was a completely unnecessary and brutal attack on a defenceless man leaving him for dead in the street all over a jealous feud.

“I would like to commend the victim for coming forward and supporting the investigation; the events of that night have greatly affected him both mentally and physically, and whilst I am pleased Strachan will now be spending ample time behind bars, this result will not take away the fact the victim must live with those scars for the rest of his life.

“The detrimental impact that one knife can have on so many lives is devastating, and the victim in this case is extremely lucky to be alive.

“Knife crime can impact people from any walk of life, and whether you find yourself in a confrontational situation at home, in the street, or are thinking of carrying a knife for your protection, ask yourself, what is the point?

“If you suspect someone is carrying a knife, or if you have concerns about crime in your area, please report it to us by calling 999 in an emergency or via our non-emergency number 101.

“To remain anonymous, you can also report through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
