A man has been charged following reports of a cat being attacked in Driffield earlier this month.

The incident was reported to police on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, after a man was allegedly seen holding a cat over a fence for two dogs to attack, leaving the animal with serious injuries.

Paul Thorpe, 62, of Ashthorpe, Hull, has now been charged with criminal damage under £5,000 and failing to prevent the causing of unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Thorpe has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear before Hull Magistrates’ Court at the end of the month.

Police have reminded the public that animal cruelty offences are taken extremely seriously and urged anyone who witnesses such incidents to report them immediately.
