Five new outdoor seating areas coming to Hull city centre
The parklets are hoped to boost the city centre and hospitality economy
Five new outdoor seating areas are being installed across Hull city centre.
Hull City Council say it's to help bring more customers to local bars, pubs and restaurants.
The "parklets" were first introduced on Princes Dock Street as part of a trial in 2023.
The council has now confirmed they'll be moved to five new locations after consulting businesses and the public.
The new locations are:
- Kingston Theatre Hotel, Kingston Square/John Street
- The New Clarence Pub, Charles Street/John Street
- Scale & Feather Bar, Scale Lane
- City Hotel, Lowgate
- Karamel, Prospect Street
The first parklet was installed outside The New Clarence Pub on Friday (24 July).
The other four parklets are due to be installed during the week beginning 3 August.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo said: “Parklets provide additional outdoor seating areas during the warmer months, allowing for more customers to enjoy the outdoors and support Hull’s hospitality sector.
“They also transform underutilised spaces into attractive and vibrant areas for people to enjoy. We have seen during the trial just how successful they have been and want to see this elsewhere in the city centre.
“The council would like to thank businesses and the public who engaged with us to determine suitable locations for the units.”
The parklets are expected to stay in their new locations for up to two years, although the council says this could change depending on how successful they are.
Most of them will replace parking spaces outside the businesses, with the council saying it is looking at creating alternative parking nearby.
The businesses will provide the parklet furniture, and will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, but the council will be responsible for physical structure repairs.
The council said Savile Street was suggesn't meet accessibility requirements.
Officials say they are looking at alternative options for the area.
