Hull MP demands update on Pickering Park Pool reopening timeline
Emma Hardy seeks confirmation that the pool will reopen this year
Emma Hardy, the MP for Hull West and Haltemprice, has written to the leader of Hull City Council to request an update on the much-anticipated reopening of Pickering Park’s pool.
The popular pool closed in 2023, and the council announced updated facilities, including new jets, water features, and an upgraded filtration system, with completion expected in "early 2026 in time for the summer season."
Hardy has expressed concern that the pool's closure has had a "significant impact on local people."
She has urged the council to provide a firm date for when families will be able to return to this vital community facility.
Cllr Mike Ross, leader of Hull City Council, responded to Hardy’s inquiry, stating construction works are following schedule.
According to Cllr Ross, the project was divided into two phases, with the first completed before Christmas.
H2 - Upcoming construction phases
Phase 2 is set to start in early March 2026.
It includes laying a new colorful rubber crumb pool surface, remediating the grassed area where the construction compound is located, and conducting system testing and commissioning alongside staff training.
Weather permitting, the completion is targeted for late March or early April.
The community eagerly awaits the reopening of the Pickering Park Pool.
