Hull Minster looking for stories as part of VE Day celebrations
The church is hoping to share stories of those in the community
Hull Minster is looking to speak to people to gather stories of World War II as part of their celebrations of VE Day.
With the 80th commemorations of VE Day, which celebrate the end of World War II in Europe and the victory of the Allies, Hull Minster wants residents of Hull - which was badly damaged by fighting - to share their stories.
The church is hoping to use these stories as part of a display that will be put up at the cathedral throughout May so that residents can look back on the effects of war on their families.
In particular, organisers are hoping to learn about how families experienced the war around them and how the arrival of VE Day shaped the city as we know it today.
Those who want to share stories for the display can submit their story through a Google Form, available on the church's website.
Speaking on the installation Vicar of Hull Minster Canon Dominic Black said: "This VE Day celebration is a special one to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the War.
"Nowadays, there are very few people alive that remember it firsthand, though its aftermath was felt for decades.
"It is the celebration of the end of a war that was felt as much at home as it was on the battlefield, and is especially important to Hull, one of the heaviest bombed cities in Britain."
