A woman has been given a criminal record and fined after failing to clean up her dog's poo in Hull.

Christine Carter failed to attend court in relation to the charge.

She was ordered to pay a £220 fine, a £85 victim surcharge and £189.75 in compensation costs to the council.

Miss Carter had previously failed to pay a fixed penalty notice in relation to the dog fouling.

She was convicted in her absence.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, said: “Dog fouling is a nuisance and a disgusting blight on our neighbourhoods. There is absolutely no excuse for failing to clean up after your dog.

“This prosecution could have been easily avoided. We urge all dog owners dispose of their dog’s mess in one of our on-street litter bins, or if not nearby, to take home and dispose of the waste in the black household waste bin.

“We would like to thank the majority of dog owners in Hull who are responsible, and our residents for their commitment to keeping our city clean and tidy.”
