Hull College is set to host "The Workforce Beneath the Satellites: Building the UK’s Space Workforce Together," an event aiming to tackle workforce challenges in the UK's burgeoning space economy.
Scheduled for today (8th October) during World Space Week, the gathering will unite leaders from education, industry, and the space sector to explore solutions for meeting growing skill demands.
Among the occupations crucial to the sector’s growth are engineers, technicians, digital specialists, cyber experts, and professionals in logistics and environmental technologies.
Hull College, in partnership with Space Hub Yorkshire, seeks to align education with these industry needs, encouraging practical actions and collaboration for workforce development.
Hull College Principal Debra Gray CBE emphasizes the importance of turning dialogue into action, highlighting the existing skills developed in Further Education that are fundamental to the space economy.
The event will feature contributions from industry experts, including Matt Child from Mach Space Ltd, Emma Hatton from Earth Observation Services, and Georgia Halston from Halston Group, alongside education leaders and space sector representatives.
As part of the initiative, Hull College has launched ORBIT, a programme connecting space-related careers to broader vocational studies, developed with the UK Space Agency.
The event builds on Hull College's previous initiatives such as Space Tech Horizons and aims to foster a more inclusive and diverse workforce for the space sector.
