People in Hull are being invited to welcome home a Hull-born man as he completes the final leg of a 28-year walk around the world.

Karl Bushby will make his way into Queen Victoria Square in the city centre on Monday 2nd November.

Hull City Council said people are encouraged to gather in the square from 10am. Karl's arrival is anticipated for 11am, but times may vary.

The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Maria Coward, has invited people to join her in welcoming Karl back to the city.

The square is the penultimate stop-off before Karl continues home.

He will be welcomed into the square by the Hull Volunteers.

The Lord Mayor will then welcome him briefly onto a stage area at the front of the city hall. A brief private reception in the city hall will follow.

Karl will then start the very final leg of his journey, heading northwards to his family home.

Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Maria Coward, said: "So many people have followed Karl on his epic journey. We have all felt inspired by his spirit, tenacity and dogged determination to carry on in challenges faced by the most fearless of explorers. We all share pride in his incredible achievement.

"We also know what it's like to come home to Hull, that feeling as your car or train, or feet in Karl's case, crosses or goes under the Humber Bridge and over the city boundary. As the world's media and documentary crews gather in our city we can show them how proud we are of Karl's achievement and how proud we are to be from Hull."
