Man jailed for 17 years after stabbing victim into coma in Hornsea
Ian Pemberton was handed a prison sentence at Hull Crown Court
A man from Hornsea has been given a jail sentence of 17 years for the attempted murder of another man.
Ian Pemberton, aged 62, from Cliff Road in Hornsea pleaded guilty to the charge at a hearing at Hull Crown Court in February.
The court heard how in August last year, paramedics had called Humberside Police for further assistance at a property in Hornsea at around 1am.
Officers were called to the property, where they found that a 43-year-old man had suffered serious stab wounds to his chest and neck.
The victim was taken to hospital by emergency services for his injuries which were described as being "life-threatening".
Witnesses in the area told officers that a knife had been used in the attack, and had been discarded into the kitchen whilst drenched in the victim's blood, with Pemberton being named as the person responsible.
The suspect had fled the scene in an attempt to escape being arrested, but was unaware of the extent of the injuries he had inflicted on the victim.
Ian was later located and arrested by police officers, some 45 minutes after the first report of an incident was made.
The victim was later transported to hospital, where his injuries were deemed to be so severe that he was placed into a medically-induced coma for three days.
Speaking on the case, Police Constable Tanya Binnington from Humberside Police said that the attack was "unprovoked", with Pemberton looking for someone else, but instead inflicting his anger on "the first defenseless person who came to the door".
She continued: "The mental scars of the horrific ordeal he endured will undoubtedly stay with him for the rest of his life, and I’d like to thank him for his patience throughout the entire process.
“I’d also like to commend the members of the public who assisted the victim at the scene and came forward with crucial information that assisted officers in getting justice for the victim and ultimately, taking Pemberton off our streets."
