Grimsby’s £20 million Government investment could go further, with plans to use it as a base to bring in extra funding for the town.

The money, part of the Government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods, will be delivered over ten years - with the first £2m arriving in April 2026 under the banner Grimsby Together, led by Our Future.

At a recent event at Grimsby Town Hall, local groups discussed how to make the most of the cash.

Julie Walmsley, CEO of housing charity Doorstep, said the aim is to use the funding to attract more partners and create lasting impact.

“£20m won’t fulfil every aspiration,” she said. “But money begets money. The idea is that you use the £20m to try and crowdfund from other funders, who might look at what we’re doing here and think, that’s really interesting, I’d like to be part of that.

“Each of those will probably come with ideas of what their fund can and can’t do. But collectively, that gives us a much broader pot of money that can be used for more things.”

The Government £20m cash is strictly confined to investment in Grimsby. Bringing in other funding could be used to fund ideas that are more broadly North East Lincolnshire-wide, she said.

A plan setting out how the money will be spent is due to go to Government this month. If approved, the first phase of funding will follow in spring 2026.
