Robin Holmes, a 70-year-old from Patrick Street in Grimsby, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after attempting to engage in sexual activities with whom he believed to be a 12-year-old boy.

Holmes appeared in court on 8th October 2026, where he pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including engaging in sexual communications with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and possession of indecent images of children.

Detectives from the Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) received a referral in April from the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, stating that Holmes was communicating with a decoy profile set up to resemble a young boy.

Holmes sent indecent images via Snapchat, requesting similar images in return. The activity followed Holmes' release from prison in December 2025, after breaching a previously imposed Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

He was arrested at his home and several mobile phones were seized, including the device used to communicate with the decoy.

Detective Constable Amy Gee, who led the investigation, expressed relief at Holmes’ sentencing, stating: "Holmes is a sickening individual, and I’m pleased he is now behind bars where he is unable to continue his attempts to target vulnerable people."

Authorities encourage individuals with information or concerns regarding such offences to contact the police by calling 101, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
