Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby has introduced a new £600,000 Special Procedures scanner, welcoming its first patients this week. The advanced equipment is poised to improve the experience and outcomes for cancer patients and those undergoing palliative care, along with a wide range of minimally invasive procedures.

The scanner's capabilities enable treatments such as stent insertion, biopsies, nephrostomy procedures, and addressing enlarged blood vessels impacting fertility. Additionally, orthopaedic patients can receive joint injections to alleviate conditions like arthritis.

Featuring a large-scale screen and the ability to render live X-Rays and 3D images, the scanner is housed in a refurbished space designed to enhance patient comfort. The area includes privacy glass and options for patients to listen to their preferred music to create a calming environment during procedures.

Radiology Consultant Dr Joseph Alex highlighted the upgraded equipment's reliability and image quality, stating, "It's wonderful to have this new equipment in place which will provide us with higher quality images to work from."

Imaging Senior General Manager Anita Echlin expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort in delivering the project, saying, "This is a fantastic facility for our patients in North East Lincolnshire, enabling us to provide these services for many years to come."
