Free children's flu vaccine pop-ups coming to Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe
No appointment needed at NHS drop-in sessions
Parents and carers across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire can get their school-aged children vaccinated against flu at free NHS pop-ups this autumn.
The Be Winter Wise pop-ups launch on Monday 26th October, bringing free flu immunisations for children directly to community venues.
The sessions are being delivered in partnership with Vaccination UK.
No appointments are needed.
Families can drop in during the day to get their children vaccinated, speak with healthcare professionals and get advice on staying healthy through the colder months.
Some pop-ups will also offer free flu vaccines for eligible adults.
NHS teams will be on hand at each event to help everyone look after their general wellbeing.
Where the pop-ups will visit
Over four weeks, the roadshows will visit Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Scarborough, Selby, Whitby, Pickering and Stokesley.
Details of each event are available on the Let's Get Better website.
Health leaders urge people to get vaccinated
Dr Nigel Wells, Medical Director at NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, said:
"Colder weather brings a sharp rise in seasonal bugs and places significant pressure on both families and local NHS services. By bringing these clinics directly into communities across the region, we are making health advice easier to reach.
"Flu can circulate quickly and poses serious health risks, particularly to older adults, pregnant women, very young children, and those living with long-term medical conditions.
"Getting vaccinated remains the single most effective way to protect yourself and those around you. I encourage everyone eligible to drop into one of our sessions, speak to our teams and get protected."
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) found that last year's flu vaccination programme prevented around 100,000 hospital admissions and saved approximately 7,000 lives.
Staying well this winter
Alongside attending one of the pop-ups, there are simple steps people can take at home to stay well this winter.
Keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet and seeking help early if you feel unwell can stop minor illnesses from getting worse.
Local pharmacies, GP surgeries and NHS 111 can provide advice and treatment before a problem becomes serious.
