Councillors granted planning permission after a site visit
A former hotel in Scunthorpe is to be converted into flats and shared living accommodation after councillors approved the plans.
The former Lighthouse Hotel on Frodingham Road will become a six-bed house in multiple occupation, known as an HMO, alongside five self-contained flats.
North Lincolnshire Council's planning committee granted permission following a site visit.
Parking and design
Applicant Nasir Ahmed said the site and its surroundings "provide ample parking capacity".
The plans include two on-site parking spaces and cycle storage.
The building had no parking provision when it operated as a hotel.
Councillors divided
Crosby and Park Ward councillor Christine O'Sullivan acknowledged the site "needed tidying up", but felt the proposal amounted to overdevelopment.
Planning member and Frodingham councillor Darryl Southern said two of the bedrooms looked very small on the plans, but said he had been reassured by the site visit.
Ashby Lakeside councillor Judith Matthews said she completely understood HMOs were a sensitive issue to some people.
However, she pointed to the building's vacant state and said "it's a really positive step towards local regeneration".
