Five prosecuted for illegal waste disposal in Hull ordered to pay fines
Hull City Council encourages proper waste disposal to avoid penalties
Five individuals in Hull have been prosecuted for fly-tipping offences and ordered to pay fines and costs amounting to £8,409.
Each received financial penalties exceeding the £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notice initially issued by Hull City Council for such offences.
Councillor Charles Quinn, the cabinet portfolio holder for environment at Hull City Council, emphasised the importance of legal waste disposal.
“Fly-tipping is a crime, and we do not tolerate it in Hull. It is unsightly, potentially harmful to human health and damaging to the environment," Quinn said.
He added that legal action became necessary after individuals failed to pay initial fines, leaving taxpayers with the cost of clearing illegally dumped waste.
Quinn also pointed out that in some cases, household waste and recycling centres were conveniently located less than ten minutes away.
Hull City Council is urging everyone to dispose of their waste effectively using available services and to report illegal waste disposal.
Details of the prosecutions are as follows:
Mr Marc Adam Burnside of Estcourt Street, Hull, failed to attend Hull Magistrates’ Court on 3rd July 2026 and was convicted in his absence of offences contrary to section 2 Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978 and section 110(2)(b) Environment Act 1995. Burnside was fined £1,675 for fly-tipping bulky items and household waste in December 2025.
Miss Jade Louise Croft of Shakespeare Close, Hull, failed to attend court on 3rd July 2026 and was convicted in absentia of similar offences, receiving penalties totalling £1,777 for dumping wood, cardboard, and bulky household items in November 2025.
Mr David Doods of Stroud Crescent West, Hull, was convicted in his absence on the same date and ordered to pay £1,777 in relation to bagged household waste left in shopping trolleys in January 2026.
Ms Casandra Argentina Sali of Adderbury Grove, Hull, faced a charge for waste dumped in March 2026 and was fined £1,682.
Miss Kinga Jarzabek of Sunny Grove, Hull, was penalised with fines amounting to £1,498 for bagged household waste fly-tipped on Sharp Street in December 2025.
In addition to the fines, each of these individuals now carries a criminal record.
The council encourages reporting of illegal waste disposal as part of their efforts to maintain cleanliness in Hull.
