An escaped emu caused delays on an East Yorkshire railway line after being spotted near Oxmardyke level crossing, close to Gilberdyke.

The bird was reported to Network Rail by the driver of a Hull to Liverpool train at about 8:00am on Thursday.

Network Rail confirmed the emu was quickly located and safely removed from the area before it could disrupt further services.

A spokesperson for the operator said normal service resumed at 10:14am, but added: "There were some changes to services and we’re sorry to anyone whose journey was affected."

The emu has since been reunited with its owners, who confirmed it had escaped from their field.
