The Roads Policing Team in East Riding of Yorkshire is enhancing its efforts to address serious road incidents with increased patrols and focused interventions.

Daily, officers tackle speeding, check vehicle conditions, and ensure motorists use the roads responsibly across busy dual carriageways and rural lanes.

Specific locations in the East Riding have been identified as hotspots for serious collisions and fatalities related to factors such as dangerous driving, excessive speed, driver distraction, and substance use.

To improve safety and boost police presence, the Roads Policing Team is collaborating with Neighbourhood Policing Teams in the region.

This joint effort increases dedicated patrol hours in these areas, serving as a visible deterrent to dangerous driving and enabling proactive offence identification and engagement with road users.

Chief Inspector Derek Hussain from the Specialist Operations Unit stated, “Everyone has the right to travel safely on our roads, whether they are driving, cycling, riding a motorcycle or simply walking."

He added that the initiative aims not only to react to incidents but to prevent collisions, educate drivers, and enforce laws robustly.

East Riding Neighbourhood Policing Chief Inspector Tom Stevens highlighted the importance of visibility and community engagement in addressing road safety.

By targeting hotspot locations and working alongside Roads Policing colleagues, local concerns about road safety are addressed, aiming to disrupt dangerous driving behaviours.

For those who ignore road laws, the message from East Riding officers is clear: "We are out there, we are watching, and if offences are identified, action will be taken."

The priority remains keeping road users safe and reducing the chances of serious or fatal collisions.
