East Riding Council pays tribute to late Town Crier Michael Wood
He served the community since 1997
East Riding Council have paid tribute to Michael Wood, the esteemed Town Crier for the region, following his recent passing.
Michael had served as the Town Crier since 1997, securing the role through a competition organised by the council.
He was known for his distinctive presence in green and gold robes with a tricorn hat and became a beloved figure at a variety of events, including council meetings, agricultural shows, open days, and celebrations across the East Riding.
Councillor Linda Johnson, Chairman of the Council, paid homage, stating: “Michael has been a tremendous town crier and has become synonymous with the East Riding.
"He opened and attended so many events and was always enthusiastic and smiling. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
Michael’s long-standing contributions to the community will be fondly remembered by many.
