Drypool Bridge to reopen after two-month closure
It was fully closed for repair works
Drypool Bridge is being reopened to the public this afternoon (24 July) after being closed for two months.
The bridge was fully closed so engineers could carry out concrete repairs and repaint parts of the structure that couldn't be safely reached while it was open.
It will reopen to all vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists at around 3.30pm, but some traffic management will remain in place while work continues.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo from Hull City Council said: “We recognise the disruption that closing such a key route has caused, but these repairs are essential to safeguard the long-term future of the bridge.
“The reopening of Drypool Bridge marks a significant milestone in this project."
Work began after routine inspections in 2024 found the bridge needed essential repairs.
Paul Allen, Senior Project Manager at Esh Construction, said: “Reopening the bridge under traffic management allows us to take advantage of the favourable weather conditions and bring forward the next phase of repairs, while restoring this important route for the travelling public.”
The project is expected to continue until winter 2026, but the bridge will remain open to two-way traffic during that time.
Hull City Council says no further long-term closures are planned.
