Drivers in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire urged to check vehicles due to bad weather warning
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice may affect travel
Drivers in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are being encouraged to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before setting out on the road due to adverse weather conditions.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice, which is expected to make journeys more challenging.
Safer Roads Humber, a road safety group, advises drivers to take precautions to prevent accidents during this period.
Ruth Gore from Safer Roads Humber emphasised the importance of making necessary vehicle checks and planning routes with caution.
"Check your tyres, make sure your wipers are working, your lights, are actually working and clear. Screen wash and make sure your windows are clear. If it's icy or snowy, make sure all your windows are clear, not just a little bit in front of you, but across all your windows. Plan your route. So, make sure if it's been icy, stick to roads that have been gritted. If you're going across the Humber Bridge, check that it's open. Also, as you're driving along, you might find that kind of places which are shady might take longer to defrost. So just be aware of the road around you. Give yourself lots of space between you and the car in front. In case anything happens, you've got a bigger stopping distance between you and the car in front and keep an eye on your speed. So make sure you're safe and appropriate within the speed limit," said Ruth.
The warning also extends to other road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and horse riders, urging them to be visible and cautious.
Ruth added, "Look out for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, horse riders. If you come across them, give them a lot of space, pass them slowly. And if you're actually one of these other road users, make sure that you're bright, be seen, make sure that drivers can see you, particularly on gloomy days."
