Federation of Sport in Hull city centre is seeking extended opening hours ahead of this summer’s World Cup. The gaming hub in King William House is seeking permission from Hull City Council to extend its hours to accommodate the late night/early morning kick-off times.

As well as having a bar and kitchen, the £1.6m venue has various gaming experiences such as golf simulators, gaming consoles, and interactive darts. The venue also has a virtual reality (VR) room.

Currently, the venue closes at 11pm most nights. However an application has been submitted to Hull City Council, seeking permission to stay open until 4am.

Federation of Sport has told the LDRS the main reason for the extended hours is to accommodate for later kick-offs during the World Cup. The venue added that the extended opening hours application is also in part due to future private event inquiries.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being held at venues across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Due to the time difference, many games will not kick-off until the early hours of the morning, UK time.

Likely to be playing in the World Cup will be co-owner of Federation of Sport, Thibaut Courtois. Upon announcing his investment in the venue, the Belgian goalkeeper said: “As someone who’s passionate about sim sports and esports, I see this as an opportunity to inspire young people to connect, compete, and collaborate in a positive environment.”

The world-renowned shot-stopper joined Spanish side Real Madrid in 2018 after having made over 120 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, where he won the league twice. He has since gone on to win a pair of UEFA Champions League medals during his time in the Spanish capital.
