The fires were spotted on Peveril Street at around 12.24am on Wednesday, 10th September 2026, and were quickly reported to patrolling officers by members of the public.

Upon arrival, officers found a mattress on fire outside a property and used extinguishers to control the flames.

Collaborating with the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, officers managed to extinguish both fires successfully.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

During the suspect's search, officers also found a quantity of suspected Class A drugs and a knife, leading to additional arrests for possession of drugs with intent to supply and possession of a knife in a public place.

Sergeant Rishi Thobhani of Nottinghamshire Police highlighted the significance of the incident:

"Had it not been for the swift response of our officers and the rapid actions of our fire service colleagues, these fires could have spread to nearby properties and caused significant damage or injury."

"Our investigation remains ongoing and we would ask anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to get in touch with us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police.
